The outrageous hacking incidents revealed after years of News Corporation denials and cover ups show that the Murdochs aren't fit and proper people to run a major UK broadcaster. We call on you to stop the deal and ensure that regulators fully assess -- on the basis of the public inquiries -- whether the Murdochs are fit and proper people to run a broadcaster.

Hacking murdered children's phones, paying off police, destroying evidence of crimes, threatening politicians -- MPs are saying the Murdoch empire has "entered the criminal underworld". And we have a real chance to stop it.  

Should such people own almost half our country's commercial media?! They shouldn't -- British law says media owners must be "fit and proper" to be trusted with broadcast licenses. But Cameron and Hunt have refused to include this criteria in their decisions on Murdoch's BSkyB deal.

Our 160,000 letters last week helped ensure the deal was referred to the Competition Commission a few hours ago. But it's time to go much further: the hacking scandal -- now spreading to the Times and Sun -- gives us our best chance in a generation to end Murdoch's reign of fear and smear over our democracy. Let's demand that Cameron and Hunt immediately ensure that regulators apply the "fit and proper" test to all of Murdoch's TV ownership in the UK. Sign the petition and forward it to everyone.
