SAVE AP, SAVE INDIA

The state of Andhra Pradesh (AP) is being divided without any rational basis. UPA govt promised to constitute 2nd States Reorganization Commission (SRC) in 2004 to look into the demands for new states. However, without doing so, the current UPA govt. has abruptly announced it's intention of dividing AP by creating Telangana. What prompted the sudden decision? Is it that elections are round the corner and hence this has been done with a view to gather votes in Telangana?

Why AP should NOT be divided?

1. Majority of people in Andhra Pradesh do not want the state to be bifurcated. People of all three regions in AP – Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra and Telangana have contributed to the development of the capital city Hyderabad. But separatists in Telangana are claiming Hyderabad for new state instead of having a new capital. They want new state but not new capital! Along with this, they are asking non-Telangana people to leave Hyderabad. All recently formed states like Chattisgarh, Jharkhand have adopted new capitals for their new states. They didn’t insist on adopting existing capital cities like Bhopal and Patna.

2. Initially backwardness was stated as the reason for separate state for Telangana. The Srikrishna Commission constituted by UPA spent a year looking at length the socio economic conditions in all three regions of AP. They concluded that Telangana’s per capita income even without Hyderabad was Rs. 33,771 while Rayalseema stood at Rs. 33,056. Coastal Andhra was the highest at Rs. 36,496. This shows Rayalaseema is the most backward region in AP. Doesn’t it follow that UPA should actually create a new Rayalaseema state if backwardness is the criteria?

3. Indeed, division of a large state like AP without a rational economic or administrative basis can prove dangerous for the country. There are numerous demands across the country for new states including Gorkhaland in West Bengal, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, Bundelkhand, Harit Pradesh in UP, Saurashtra in Gujarat, Bodoland in Assam etc. Why are those demands not being considered? Why is it that Maharashtra or UP or Gujarat etc. not being divided along with AP? Why not Maharashtra first? It is a bigger state

By succumbing to the demand for Telangana state, Central govt. is setting a dangerous precedent - anyone can indulge in violence and few 'fast-unto-death' dharnas for a week and get a new state. This is what is happening in Andhra Pradesh. This way govt will have to create at least 20 new states, with or without legitimate reasons ----- country will break up soon. Please stop this.

I urge all right thinking Indians to support this petition and STOP this madness called 'Bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh' now! It's now or never.

Jai Hind! Jai Samaikyandhra!
