Pak Ujang Iskandar, Kantor Bupati Kotawaringin Barat

Hi I'm Marie from Save Indonesian Endangered Species and I'm sending out a desperate call for help from Central Kalimantan.

Palm Oil companies have already cleared over 2,200 hectares of land alongside the Sekonyer River and Tanjung Puting National Park, killing at least 22 wild Orangutans - and there is a massive expansion underway.

Orangutans aren't the only victims. Tanjung Puting is a conservation area of global importance and is home to 9 primate species, over 20 mammals including the endangered Sun bear and Clouded Leopard as well as over 200 bird species.

The Sekonyer River is critical habitat and provides access to Tanjung Puting National Park. The Orangutans being murdered are cut off from the Park and trapped on the opposite side of the River.

They cannot swim. They cannot cry for help.

This area is already a highly prized tourist destination. Ecotourism provides a sustainable income for local people. It protects the rainforest. Palm Oil is short-term. It destroys everything forever.

The main companies responsible are the Bumitama Gunajaya Agro Group (BGA) part of the Harita Group (controlled by the billionaire Lim family) and BW Plantation (5% ownership by JP Morgan Chase Bank). The actions of these companies fly in the face of their environmental claims and their membership of the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil). Their claims are greenwash but they have considerable political influence.

We need your help now before it is too late - every day is critical.

The Bupati (Local Regent) has given approval to Palm Oil plantations but there is still time to stop the destruction and he has the power to do so.

The local community is being ripped off, the wildlife slaughtered and the forest destroyed - for all generations - FOREVER. By the time we realise what we have lost it will be too late.

We need your help NOW. PLEASE Click below to sign the petition.

and.. make your money count. Boycott products made from palm oil !
