Vaccination is what has tamed our deadliest childhood and adult diseases from smallpox, to the standard childhood disease -- measles, chicken pox, whooping cough. The risk/reward ratios of vaccines have been thoroughly studied and there is no controversy among real doctors and medical researchers who have actually studied the issue. Vaccines are the greatest step forward in public health ever. If everyone who can be vaccinated is, there are not enough people available for the virus to infect for an epidemic to get going. When enough people opt out of vaccination programs, those people who cannot be vaccinated for whatever reason (damaged immune system, too young, too old, etc.) are put at increased risk of death or serious injury from these preventable diseases. Failing to vaccinate due to ignorance is equivalent to storing explosives in your living room. You risk not only the lives of your family, but also the lives of anyone living in the resulting danger zone.
