Stop Water Fluoridation
Water fluoridation products are drugs by definition in U.S. law because it is undisputed that they are intended for use in the prevention of tooth decay disease in man. Despite this intent, many experts in water fluoridation state that these products are not safe and effective in the prevention of tooth decay. The Federal Food and Drug Administration has not approved these drugs. Ongoing sale and use of these unapproved drugs must be stopped now by HHS Secretary Burwell to protect the public health.
Prior Secretary Sebelius reports that a national survey shows more than two out of every five 12-15 year olds in the U.S. are getting dental fluorosis. (76 FR 2385.) This is primarily from fluoridated water. She states that one out of 27 12-15 year olds in the U.S. are getting moderate to severe dental fluorosis. Photos of dental fluorosis are shown above.
It is time to put a stop to illegal delivery of drugs in public drinking water. Most other countries oppose water fluoridation because public drinking water is not considered a suitable way to deliver medicine to people, because water fluoridation can cause health problems for vulnerable people, and because fluoridated toothpaste costs no more than non-fluoridated toothpaste and choice allows people to give consent for their medical treatment.
In a letter dated February 14, 2013, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency clearly states, "The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), acting through the FDA, remains responsible for regulating the addition of drugs to water supplies for health care purposes."
