The Petition is important because the working of police affects a large mass of humanity - 1.2 billion people in India. We have inherited a colonial police structure which serves the establishment but is not sensitive or people-friendly. It is Rulers' Police. What we need is a People's Police - responsive and committed to upholding the Rule of Law.
