Japan: It's our time to shine
To Prime Minister Noda and Trade Minister Edano:
Japan will soon be the first industrialised country in the world to go 100% free. This is an astounding occasion for celebration, but one that we want to make permanent. Energy companies continue to wrongfully claim we can’t survive even a summer without nuclear power, but we firmly believe our nation has the capability to run a successful nuclear-free economy -- all that we need is resolve. We call on you to represent the voices of the people and forge ahead a new energy path for Japan by inserting the pledge to abolish nuclear power into the country’s fourth basic energy plan.

One year ago, no one thought this was possible. In the aftermath of our national shock and grief, the only certainty was our determination to never let this tragedy happen again. And we did it! But the battle isn’t over -- our government refuses to let go of the possibility of the nuclear restarts, held hostage by powerful energy companies who wrongfully claim we can’t survive without nuclear power.
But experts say our nation has the capability to run a successful nuclear-free economy, and a high-ranking official from the Environment Ministry says only the public can keep the reactors off: "If Japan has the motivation, it can do this." Let’s celebrate this switch off by telling our leaders that we want a total resolution for a nuclear-free future -- forever. Sign this petition to Noda and Edano, calling on them to pledge for a nuclear-free future in Japan’s new energy plan.
