Save the 30 climate heroes

To the Heads of State of Brazil, India, China, and South Africa:

With the arrest of peaceful climate defenders in international waters, Russian authorities violated international laws. As a partner of the Federation of Russia, we are calling on you to call on your Russian counterparts to immediately release the 30 Greenpeace activists, and stop this crackdown on climate defenders.

Save the 30 climate heroes
When the Arctic Sunrise set sail to protest oil drilling in the icy Arctic waters, its brave crew didn’t expect helicopter pursuits and Russian special forces pointing guns at their chests. Now they’re charged with piracy and may suffer in a Russian jail for 15 years!

Many western governments have spoken out for the 30 Greenpeacers, and even Russian president Putin agrees they aren’t pirates. But the oil lobby has a strong grip on Russia’s far North. Now Greenpeace is asking the Avaaz community to help build a truly global outcry. Together we can get four key countries with strong trade and political ties to Russia -- Brazil, India, South Africa and China -- to speak up too.

Our community’s global reach is unmatched. If a million of us sign the urgent petition to help free the Arctic 30 this week, we’ll project these brave climate defenders’ faces on high profile buildings in Delhi, Brasilia, Beijing, and Pretoria, so our call cannot be ignored. Add your voice, and send this widely.
