Brazil: I want to know how my congressman voted!

To the Brazilian Senate:

We urge you to lead the way to a new politics in Brazil by voting to abolish the secret ballot on key votes and opening up these proceedings for all to see. Impunity and corruption have thrived for years through this blackout of the political process. We need politicians to be accountable to their voters now, and as a path towards broader political reform in Brazil.

In 24 hours, the Congress will decide whether to do away with the secret ballot on key votes and open up these proceedings for all to see. It's our best chance to ensure corrupt politicians can no longer protect their own and we can tip the balance if we act now!

For decades, when Congress votes to expel a corrupt member, the vote is secret and we can never tell which legislators are protecting the bad guys. A proposal that will be voted on Wednesday would change this, shedding light on one of the most corruptive practices in Brazilian politics. The pressure on the vote is piling up, with roughly 300 members already supporting the measure but we need a few more. If we do a massive public appeal right now, congressmen who are facing local election this year will have no option but to approve the proposal.

Sign the petition now and send to everyone -- if we reach 50.000 signatures the judge Marlon Reis, one of the Ficha Limpa's champions, will deliver it to key senators on Wednesday before the vote.
